Arnica Montana – Leopard’s Bane
Arnica is a perennial plant and grows primarily in mountain pastures. I think it is one of the most well-known remedies in homeopathy. It was not the first remedy I was exposed to but the one I have used the most, especially as a mom.
Arnica is used in my home for injuries primarily. To help stop bruising, and to heal injuries has been its main use.
It has been useful for use in recent injuries or for injuries of the past that have not healed completely.
Head injury, shock, arthritis pain, backache from muscle strain … even labor pains, strokes, pains after the dentist, and bruising. Think of this remedy in muscle and venous applications.
An interesting story from Dr. Clarke (early 1900s) who tested Arnica out on himself by putting a piece of wire through the tip of his finger causing paralyzing pain. Then he applied arnica once and immediately the pain vanished.
From E.B. Nash (late 1800-1900) on Arnica Montana: “I once cured a man who had suffered from what he and his physician had called dyspepsia for several years. He had been obliged to give up his business because he could not eat enough to support his strength. He had been told by his physician that he would never be well again and had given up hope himself. This condition was caused by the kick of a horse upon the region of the stomach. A few doses of Arnica 200th cured him in a short time and he resumed his business.”
I used this remedy A LOT as the boys grew up. One particular event was when my oldest was around 7 yrs old. He and a friend were riding bikes down the hill on the street to our house. His bike tire got stuck in a rut (this was a dirt road) and he went tumbling down, even his helmet flew off. I saw this happen from the kitchen window, grabbed the Arnica and ran out there, and gave him one immediately. It addressed the shock and the trauma. The ambulance was called and I dosed him on the way and also when we arrived. The nurse scrubbed his face and chest and he had absolutely NO bruising. I know! It’s hard to believe! But this is the truth. Arnica … I’m in love with you!
P.S. Here is a quick tip for a sore back — use Arnica 200c, twice a day. Stop when better.
